TONIGHT: JAZZ REFRESHED 12th BIRTHDAY+ SCRAPBOOK LAUNCH FEATURING THE REBIRTH LIVE, MAU MAU BAR, 265 PORTOBELLO RD, LONDON W11, 8PM – 11.45PM (ON STAGE 9.30PM) £10 ENTRY
In addition to our Birthday celebrations, today we FINALLY release the Jazz re:freshed… well, we’re actually not sure what to call it, so for now we’ll just call it a scrapbook.
As you may have heard by now, the Jazz re:freshed Scrapbook (ahem), is a photography & art centered publication, featuring a free album of music with each edition, recorded live at the Jazz re:freshed Mau Mau Bar weekly sessions.
The idea is to create a cultural scrapbook, archiving and documenting Jazz re:freshed visually, sonically and in words, whilst also creating an opportunity for patrons to submit content and be more connected to the movement. It features contributions from numerous Jazz re:freshed attendees, who have kindly submitted their photos, words, experiences, etc.
When deciding to publish, we were very excited to be working on a tangible printed product. In a world that is becoming increasingly digital, we have a thing for the tangible here at Jazz re:freshed HQ. This project was always going to be about the beauty of print, although an e-book version will be available at a later date.
This first edition is a retrospective of the first eleven years of Jazz re:freshed, taking you back to the beginning and up to the end of 2014. The FREE album attached to the front cover of this first edition – JAZZ RE:FRESHED LIVE VOLUME ONE
For a number of years, we have been recording the Jazz re:freshed weekly live sessions at Mau Mau Bar, principally to be used for the videos we produce for our archives. In 2012, we decided to release some of the early recordings on an album entitled JAZZ RE:FRESHED LIVE PRELUDE (which you can still download for free from this site). Around this time, the sound system at the venue had been upgraded and we were then able to produce high quality multi-track recordings. This changed the game for us completely.
Having collected a number of recordings, of which a small percentage were used to accompany videos, we knew that we couldn’t simply shelve fantastic recordings, most of which would never be heard. It was when we decided to produce the Jazz re:freshed publication, that we saw a perfect opportunity and vehicle to release the recordings to the public – as a free download accompaniment.
We then set about choosing the recordings we felt best represented Jazz re:freshed, in vibe and quality, then approached the artists and bands with the recordings. The response was amazing. Suffice to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU, to the artists, musician and management featured on this album, for allowing us to put their talents and fantastic music out there.
What we have ended up with, is an amazing collection of 14 tracks, showing the skill and beauty of live music performed by musicians of the highest quality. As always, our first priority is to promote the artists and bands that we believe NEED to be heard, however, we also hope that the vibe and energy of the weekly event is translated through these recordings, giving you an experience only second to actually being there.
Featured on this album are the amazing…
Emmanuel Franklyn Adelabu
Dominic J Marshall
Peter Edwards Trio
